I don't know about you, but I find writing essays very difficult. Do I do this? Do I do that? However, if you are like me, or even if just want to get a better idea of what you should do, here are 10 top tips on how to write an essay: 1. Your Essay Is Just A Short Story. Most stories are about conflict and change. The trick to essays is to write them the same way, by using conflict and change. The only difference is that in an essay the conflict is between two or more different ideas and the change is the way we should perceive those ideas. 3. Ask Yourself: "What Surprises Me About This Subject?" Does it ever cross your mind when you are writing an essay that you should just write down what the teacher wants you to write. I do -a lot- however it will not get you the best grade that you can. The teachers want you to put down the main points, however if you come up with something yourself, possibly an opinion, then that will get you an extra mark.
5. Add A Lot Of Sources In. Yes, you do need to write about what the subject is, however to get the best marks you must put in sources, explain what they are and why they are linked to what you are writing about. The more sources you put in, the more detail you can say about that subject and how it links into the question/s you are being asked. 6. Make Sure To Add An Introduction And A Conclusion. When writing an essay on a timer, you just want to get all the information in. This is good, however without an introduction and a conclusion you cannot get the highest marks. I find that even if I do a small Introduction and then when everything else is done, go back and add more to it at the end, I get more marks then I would just adding more information in. 7. What, Why And How. If you are struggling to try and get your point across on an argument or finding it hard to get the required word count, use the technique: What, Why and How. The trick is when writing an essay, answering a what question will make your essay ok. If you answer questions with a what and why in it, your essay will become good. However, if you add the answer to a how question, your essay will be one of the bests.
9. Some Words Just Will Not Work. When writing an essay it's best to add good punctuation, spelling and grammar as it could get you about 3 extra marks. It is also good to add "wow" words or which are impressive words that you would not normally use and add them instead of "boring" words that we use all the time. For instance, instead of writing "but", you could write "however, on the other hand." etc.
Artful Minds Extra Fact:
I find that when I am writing an essay I always have a spare piece of paper on me to write things for later, ideas I thought of or even what I have already written to remind me for later on. I also always have a bottle of water with me to keep me hydrated but never any fizzy drinks or drinks with caffeine in it as I find my mind gets too busy and I find that I miss out information.
